Google Cloud unveils Developer Device Platform for mobile app testing and agentic development

Google Cloud has launched the Developer Device Platform (DDP) in public preview, offering a fully managed cloud service for on-demand access to real physical devices and high-concurrency virtual emulators. This platform aims to simplify and accelerate mobile app building and testing across diverse hardware profiles, addressing the complexity and cost of traditional device testing. DDP is designed to enhance the mobile development lifecycle, particularly for emerging agentic development workflows, by allowing developers and AI agents to interact with devices. It is available to all Google Cloud users from August 12 on a pay-per-minute basis.

  • Interactive Debugging with Device Streaming

    The Device Streaming API allows developers to directly access and remotely interact with an emulator or physical device. This enables iterative testing, debugging, and real-time monitoring of app performance and user experience across different hardware.

  • Parallel Testing with Device Run

    The Device Run API facilitates running tests in parallel across hundreds of diverse devices as part of CI/CD pipelines. Developers can use the results to quickly pinpoint and debug device-specific issues, ensuring broader compatibility and reliability.

  • Enhanced Agentic Development Capabilities

    DDP is designed for agentic development, allowing AI coding agents to interact and test on real hardware, leveraging unique phone features like foldable UIs and specialized CPUs/GPUs. The platform will integrate with Android Studio and Android CLI, enabling agents to execute user journeys, spot visual artifacts, and optimize code for hardware-specific bugs.
