Azure VMware Solution: License-included service retires August 2027 due to Broadcom changes
Microsoft is retiring its Azure VMware Solution (AVS) license-included service on August 30, 2027. This change is a direct consequence of Broadcom's new VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) licensing policies, which now mandate a "bring your own" portable license model across hyperscaler platforms. Customers currently using license-included Reserved Instance (RI) or Pay-As-You-Go SKUs must transition to a BYOL model with Broadcom VCF licenses or migrate away from AVS before the deadline. Pay-As-You-Go SKUs will be retired earlier on October 31, 2026, and customers with RIs expiring after August 2027 can exchange them.

Due to Broadcom's updated VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) licensing policies, Microsoft will retire the Azure VMware Solution (AVS) license-included service on August 30, 2027. Customers must acquire portable Broadcom VCF licenses and transition to AVS BYOL SKUs or exit AVS to prevent service disruption, with Pay-As-You-Go SKUs retiring by October 31, 2026.
