AKS on Windows Server 2019/2022 architecture to retire March 2028

Microsoft announced the retirement of the current Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) architecture on Windows Server 2019 and Windows Server 2022, scheduled for March 27, 2028. Customers must migrate existing clusters to newer versions of AKS on Azure Stack HCI, specifically version 23H2 or later, to continue receiving support and security updates. This transition is necessary as Windows Server 2019 and 2022 will no longer receive updates after this date, impacting deployment, upgrades, and scaling capabilities for older AKS configurations. Early adopters of AKS on Azure Stack HCI, version 22H2, should note that Azure Stack HCI 22H2 reaches end of service on May 31, 2025, and should update to the latest Azure Stack HCI version.
