Amazon Bedrock AgentCore adds EC2 runtime instances
AWS announces runtime instances for Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, enabling agents to run on Amazon EC2 instances without manual infrastructure management. This new feature provides purpose-built infrastructure for deploying and operating AI agents securely at scale, complementing the existing microVM-based option. It offers flexibility for sustained, resource-intensive, or specialized-hardware agents by allowing the use of various EC2 instance types, including GPU-accelerated options, while AgentCore manages provisioning and scaling. Runtime instances support longer agent sessions and are available in several AWS Regions.

Features (1) ›
- Deploy AI agents on EC2 instances with AgentCore runtime
AgentCore runtime instances allow AI agents to run on customer-managed Amazon EC2 instances, removing the need to manage underlying infrastructure. This feature supports sustained, resource-intensive, or specialized-hardware agents and integrates with various EC2 instance types.
Enhancements (1) ›
- Extended agent session support and flexible compute options
Runtime instances support long-running agent sessions of up to 14 days, contrasting with the default serverless runtime's 8-hour limit. This allows users to select optimal compute resources for each agent, including GPU-accelerated, memory-optimized, and compute-optimized families, without altering agent deployment or invocation methods.
Notes (2) ›
- AgentCore runtime instances are now generally available in multiple AWS Regions
This new feature is generally available and can be used in specified AWS Regions including US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), US West (Oregon), Asia Pacific (Mumbai), Asia Pacific (Singapore), Asia Pacific (Sydney), Asia Pacific (Tokyo), Europe (Frankfurt), and Europe (Ireland).
- Pricing for AgentCore runtime instances
Users will be charged for the management of provisioned compute in addition to Amazon EC2 costs when using runtime instances.
