Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports the April 2026 Release Update (RU) for versions 19c and 21c, and the Supplemental Patch Bundle (SPB) for 19c. This update includes critical security patches and is recommended for all Oracle database products. The SPB provides additional patches for specific use cases like Oracle Spatial and Data Pump. Updates can be applied via the AWS Console, SDK, or CLI, with options for automatic minor version upgrades and staggered rollouts using AWS Organizations.

    Amazon RDS for Oracle now supports the April 2026 RU for Oracle Database 19c and 21c, along with the corresponding Supplemental Patch Bundle (SPB) for 19c. The RU includes essential security updates, and the SPB provides additional patches for use cases such as Oracle Spatial and Data Pump. The SPB is a renaming of the Oracle Spatial Patch Bundle starting with the April 2026 release.

  • Flexible application of updates via AWS Console, SDK, and CLI

    Users can apply the April 2026 RU and SPB using the Amazon RDS Management Console, AWS SDK, or CLI. Automatic minor version upgrades can be enabled during the maintenance window. The SPB can be applied to new instances or upgraded on existing instances by selecting the 'Supplemental Patch Bundle Engine Versions' checkbox.

    The release introduces an AWS Organizations upgrade rollout policy to stagger automatic minor version upgrades for Amazon RDS database instances. This feature allows for automated updates in non-production environments, validation, and subsequent application to production environments.
