AWS IoT Core adds connectivity and authentication logs

observabilityawsengineer
feature

AWS IoT Core now provides two new CloudWatch log event types, Ping and Connection.AuthNError, to help troubleshoot device connectivity and authentication issues. These logs allow identification of dropped connections and faster resolution of credential or certificate problems. The new events are available in all AWS Regions where IoT Core is supported, requiring configuration of event-level logging and opt-in.

  • New logs for device connectivity and authentication troubleshooting
  • Configuration required to enable new log event types
Features (1)
  • New logs for device connectivity and authentication troubleshooting

AWS IoT Core introduces Ping and Connection.AuthNError log event types to CloudWatch. The Ping log helps identify dropped connections by monitoring MQTT Keep-alive messages, while Connection.AuthNError records authentication failures with detailed error codes for faster resolution of credential issues. These features are available in all AWS Regions where IoT Core is supported.

Notes (1)
  • Configuration required to enable new log event types

Users need to configure event-level logging in AWS IoT Core settings, specifying a log level and CloudWatch log group destination. They must then opt into the new Ping and Connection.AuthNError event types to begin receiving these logs.
