AWS Nested Virtualization Expands to More Intel Instances and GovCloud
AWS has expanded nested virtualization support to more Intel-based EC2 instance types, including C7i, R7i, M7i, and their variants, along with the new X8i instances. This capability is also now available in US GovCloud regions (US-East and US-West), broadening its accessibility. Nested virtualization allows users to run hypervisors like KVM or Hyper-V on EC2 instances, enabling scenarios such as mobile app emulation, automotive hardware simulation, and WSL on Windows.

Nested virtualization support has been extended to C7i, R7i, M7i, C7id, R7id, M7id, C7i-flex, R7i-flex, M7i-flex, I7i, C8i-flex, R8i-flex, M8i-flex, and X8i instance families. This complements existing support on C8i, M8i, and R8i instances.

The capability for nested virtualization is now accessible in US GovCloud (US-East) and US GovCloud (US-West). This adds to the existing support available in all commercial AWS regions.
