Features (2)
  • Monetize AI bot access to content and APIs

AWS WAF introduces AI traffic monetization, a Bot Control capability that lets you price, meter, and collect payments from AI bots and agents accessing your content and APIs. It returns an HTTP 402 Payment Required response with pricing and license terms, and verifies proof of payment at the edge.

  • Differentiated pricing and analytics

Publishers can apply differentiated pricing based on agent identity and intent, such as charging different rates for verified AI search crawlers versus unverified or training crawlers. Revenue analytics are available in the AWS WAF console alongside the AI traffic analysis dashboard.

Enhancements (1)
  • Configure pricing and policies in AWS WAF console

You can configure pricing through the AWS WAF console, define AI bot or agent policies based on verification status, and receive payouts in stablecoins. Initial integration is with Coinbase's x402 Facilitator, with Stripe and Machine Payments Protocol support coming soon.

Notes (1)
  • Availability and getting started

AI traffic monetization is available to AWS WAF customers at no additional charge, with standard AWS WAF charges applying. The capability is available in all edge locations where AWS WAF Web ACLs are associated with Amazon CloudFront distributions. You can get started via the AWS WAF console or Developer Guide.
