Amazon EC2 M8i and M8i-flex instances launched in New Zealand

Amazon EC2 M8i and M8i-flex instances powered by custom Intel Xeon 6 processors have been launched in the Asia Pacific (New Zealand) Region. These instances offer enhanced performance and memory bandwidth compared to previous generations.

M8i-flex instances are designed for ease of use and price-performance benefits across common general-purpose workloads like web servers, microservices, and data stores. They are available in sizes from large to 16xlarge and are suitable for applications that may not fully utilize all compute resources.

M8i instances are recommended for all general-purpose workloads, particularly those requiring larger instance sizes or sustained high CPU usage. SAP-certified M8i instances are available in 13 sizes, including two bare metal options and a new 96xlarge size.

The new instances provide up to 15% better price-performance and 2.5x more memory bandwidth than comparable Intel processors. They also deliver up to 20% better performance than M7i and M7i-flex instances for general-purpose workloads.

M8i and M8i-flex instances show significant speedups for various applications, including up to 40% faster for AI deep learning recommendation models, up to 60% faster for NGINX web applications, and up to 30% faster for PostgreSQL databases compared to M7i/M7i-flex.
