Amazon RDS for MariaDB now supports MariaDB major version 12.3, its latest Long-Term Support release, which enhances database capabilities. This update introduces Oracle TO_DATE() function compatibility, an IS JSON predicate for native document validation, and query optimizer improvements for specific join and partition types. These features aim to simplify migrations from Oracle, streamline JSON data handling, and boost query performance without application changes. Users can upgrade using Amazon RDS Blue/Green Deployments, in-place upgrades, or snapshot restoration, or migrate with AWS Database Migration Service.

It also adds an IS JSON predicate for native document validation and includes query optimizer improvements for reorderable LEFT JOIN statements and ordered scans over RANGE partitions. Databases can be upgraded using Amazon RDS Blue/Green Deployments, in-place upgrades, or snapshot restoration, or migrated using AWS Database Migration Service.
