feature

Databricks has rolled out several new features and enhancements for its dashboards, focusing on improved data integration, visualization capabilities, and AI-driven insights. These updates introduce greater flexibility in dashboard design, including better support for Tableau calculations, expanded control over chart presentation, and more precise data filtering. Users can now also leverage AI assistants with page and chart-specific context, and manage materialized views more effectively within Unity Catalog.

  • Relationship-Scoped Filters for Dashboards (Public Preview)
  • Select SQL Warehouse for Materialized View Export
  • Dashboard Theme Export and Import
  • Path Maps from Point Sequences
  • Enhanced Ask Genie Context and Scoping
Features (4)
  • Relationship-Scoped Filters for Dashboards (Public Preview)

Dashboard widgets now respond only to filters whose dataset is directly related to them. This ensures that a filter will not unintentionally affect unrelated charts on the same dashboard, improving data focus.

  • Select SQL Warehouse for Materialized View Export

When exporting a dashboard dataset as a materialized view into Unity Catalog, users can now specify which SQL warehouse will run the materialization process, offering better resource management and performance control.

  • Dashboard Theme Export and Import

Users can now export a dashboard's theme to a JSON file and import that theme into other dashboards. This allows for easier reuse and sharing of consistent design aesthetics without manual editing of dashboard JSON.

  • Path Maps from Point Sequences

Path maps can now be generated by connecting a sequence of ordered points, sourced from separate longitude/latitude columns or a single point geometry column. This enables visualization of trajectories like GPS tracks on maps.

Enhancements (2)
  • Enhanced Ask Genie Context and Scoping

Ask Genie's suggested starter questions are now scoped to the specific dashboard page and widget being viewed. Additionally, the input bar provides context from a selected chart, enabling more precise AI-driven inquiries about specific data points.

  • Expanded Tableau Calculation Support

The `/importBI` Genie Code command now supports a broader range of parameterized calculations when importing Tableau reports. This improves fidelity and flexibility when integrating Tableau assets into Databricks dashboards.
