Amazon Aurora and RDS for MySQL extend 5.7 support to June 2029

Amazon Aurora and RDS for MySQL now offer Extended Support for MySQL 5.7 until June 30, 2029, extending from the previous February 2027 deadline. This provides customers with more time to plan upgrades while still receiving security patches and bug fixes without additional cost. This extension is available in all regions where Aurora MySQL and RDS for MySQL are offered, and AWS recommends upgrading to MySQL 8.0 or compatible versions.

    Amazon Aurora MySQL-Compatible Edition and Amazon RDS for MySQL now offer Extended Support for MySQL 5.7 through June 30, 2029. This extension provides customers with additional time to plan and complete upgrades to supported major versions.

  • Continued security and bug fixes during extended support period

    During the extended support period, customers will receive critical security patches for CVEs and bug fixes for critical operational issues. Access to AWS Support is also maintained within standard SLAs.

  • No price increase for extended support

    There is no price increase associated with this extension of RDS Extended Support for MySQL 5.7. Customers will continue to pay Year 3 pricing through June 30, 2029.

  • Recommendation to upgrade to MySQL 8.0 or compatible versions

    AWS recommends upgrading to MySQL 8.0 or MySQL 8.4 compatible versions to leverage the latest database features, performance enhancements, and security improvements. Upgrade options include Amazon RDS Blue/Green Deployments, in-place upgrades, or snapshot restores.

  • Availability across AWS regions

    This extended support is available in all AWS Regions where Aurora MySQL and RDS for MySQL are currently offered.
